      Easy IRA Gift

Barbara retired after forty years as an executive secretary. Barbara had been a part of the Singing Quakers while attending Friends years ago.  She also did not need the income, so she decided to make a gift of $2,000 from her IRA to reflect her support of the Fine Arts 4-year educational travel program.  The students would be able to experience some of the same benefits she had while traveling and performing as a Singing Quaker.

Barbara: My pension had benefited from the last stock market boom. I had more IRA income than I needed to cover my living expenses. Having been a part of the Singing Quakers and performing with the group, I realized that I wanted others to have that same experience of traveling and performing in a variety of settings.  It was such a significant part of my college experience, I want others to have that opportunity. So, I decided this might be a way to make an extra special gift to the University - supporting the educational travel fund for Fine Arts.

Barbara called Nancy Hinten, the Director of Planned Giving at Friends and she helped her complete the process.

Barbara: It was very easy to make an IRA charitable gift. The part I like best is that I could help Friends with my required distribution and support student travel this year.

The 2010 IRA charitable rollover passed the House and awaits Senate approval. It is not currently available. Because it is very likely to pass this year, we ask you to continue to plan for a potential IRA charitable rollover in the fall of 2010. To learn more click here.
